Terms you will come across

Compliance-  Ensuring that all products shipped are in compliance with customs in the country it's being imported to.


Clearance- Making sure that shipments are cleared through customs when entering any foreign country.


Incoterms- Define the responsibilities of sellers and buyers. Incoterms specifies who is responsible for paying for and managing the shipment, insurance, documentation, customs clearance, and other logistical activities.


IOR- (Importer of Record) The party responsible for ensuring that imported goods comply with all customs and legal requirements.


Commercial Invoice-  is a customs document. It is used as a customs declaration provided by the person or corporation that is exporting an item across international borders. It clearly describes' the goods being shipped, the value etc.


HS Code - the commodity description that customs uses to classify your product so they can calculate the duties and taxes.


Duties and Taxes-  A tax on the products shipped charged by the import country.  The tax amount will be based on the value and the HS Code.


VAT- ( Value Added Tax)  Is a tax charged on most goods and services sold and imported in the UK, The standard VAT percentage is 20%.


EORI- (Economic Operators Registration and Identification number) is an EU registration and identification number for businesses that want to import or export goods into or out of the EU. Once you have an EORI number, this number will be valid in all other EU member states.


NRI- (Non-Resident Importer) is a company or individual who does not reside in Canada, but elects to act as the Importer of Record (IOR) for a shipment, or shipments, imported into Canada.


HST/GST/PST- The harmonized sales tax (HST) is a combination of the federal Canadian goods and services tax (GST) and provincial sales taxes (PST)


UPS Brokerage Account-  A UPS third-party account that when shipping to Canada has the Import taxes billed directly to the shipper.( Instead of the FCS Account)


UPS Third Party Account/Duty and Tax Account- A UPS third party account when shipping internationally ( besides Canada) to have the Import taxes billed directly to the shipper. ( Instead of the FCS Account)


Courier/Small Parcel- When shipping with one of our courier partners, DHL, UPS, or FedEx.


LTL- Less than Truckload, shipping ground via trucking

FTL- Full Truckload,shipping ground via trucking 


Air Freight- Shipping pallets via passenger aircraft. ( We currently don't service)

FCL- Full container load,  shipping a full container via ocean.  ( We currently don't service) 

LCL- less than container load,  Shipping pallets via Air or Ocean.   ( We currently don't service)
